Finding a new home with the character of a classic Broad Ripple bungalow can be difficult.

But Bud and Julie Craft did just that when they moved into their house in Saxony's The Cottages last year.  "We were looking for that unique of a home," said Bud, 57. He said he and Julie wanted the character of an old house without the extra maintenance many require.  The Crafts' new place reminds them of circa 1920s homes, like the one in Broad Ripple their 28-year-old daughter, Lindsey Hamilton, lives in.  "She had the original, and we could buy the new copy," Julie said.  Charming details in the Crafts' home include built-in shelves, wood floors, arched doorways and a front porch, where the couple like to relax on wicker furniture.

Executive Homes started construction of the neighborhood in 2003.  The Cottages is north of 126th Street on Olio Road inside Saxony, a growing community of about 700 acres along the east and west sides of Olio Road near Exit 10 of I-69.  As a part of Saxony, The Cottages offer a variety of amenities including walking paths, landscaped yards and recreational space.

“Residents at different stages of life continue to move into The Cottages,” said Mary Prout, marketing coordinator for Executive Homes.  "When we were developing the product, we were looking at empty-nesters," she said. "We've also gotten young families, which was completely unexpected, because they like the amenities of Saxony."
